The MARTA Police Department's goal is to teach young riders how to safely navigate the city by means of public transportation. We want our riders to become comfortable with using public transit while building a positive relationship with the men and women of the MARTA Police Department, who continue to work hard to provide a safe and pleasurable MARTA experience for all MARTA customers. Summer Camps, Youth Groups, & Local Youth Organizations are invited to join us for a full day of learning and exploring the MARTA transit system. Ride with PRYDE Application

The MARTA Police Citizen Police Academy is a ten-week program designed to provide a unique glimpse behind the badge of MARTA Police. The Academy offers metro area citizens a better understanding of the department and a greater awareness of the daily challenges faced by its officers.

Attendees will learn about departmental resources and programs and, more importantly, the men and women who comprise the MARTA Police Department. Classes will be a combination of lectures and interactive activities, with topics such as special operations, gang awareness, communications, firearm use and safety, crime prevention, crime scene investigation and patrol procedures.

Participation in the program is free. Applicants are required to be 18 years of age and must provide their own transportation to and from training. GREAT is a school-based program that uses officer-instructed classroom curriculum to help prevent delinquency, youth violence and gang membership. The program's focus is taking a positive approach to solving problems rather than resorting to violence and delinquent behavior. MARTA Police offers an internship program for students in undergraduate, graduate and law school programs. This program aims to give students the opportunity to gain practical experience in law enforcement. Students participate in a quasi-training program that takes them through each of MARTA Police's service areas. And, when possible, students are assigned to work on specific projects that are tailored to their specific areas of interest.

Selection Process

The application and selection process for the MARTA Police Internship Program includes the following:

1. All interns must be at least 18 years of age or older.
2. Applicants must submit a cover letter, a resume and the Departments Internship Applicant form. Contact information for school advisor, required service hours and two references should be included.
3. Applicants must submit a notarized MARTA Consent Form for a criminal history check with their application packages.
4. MARTA Police personnel will conduct interviews with potential candidates.
5. The Chief of Police will make the final decision.
6. Interns will be selected based on:

   - Interview
   - Chief of Police approval

Kids in Transit is a one-week summer program for students between the ages of 12 and 16. The program gives kids the chance to see all facets of police work, participate in police-instructed life skills courses and tour unique locations throughout Metro Atlanta. The goal of the Kids in Transit Youth Leadership Program is to promote an environment for students to enhance their social and interpersonal skills, while developing themselves to become strong leaders. The program provides learning opportunities for youth through educational field trips, leadership workshops, community service, and presentations from motivational speakers.

SALT is an initiative that brings together seniors, community groups and law enforcement professionals to help better meet the crime-safety needs of seniors. The Diverse Community Outreach Liaison (DCOL) has the responsibility of identifying, analyzing and addressing problems arising between MARTA Police and communities with diverse interests, ethnicities, cultures and languages. The DCOL collaborates with community leaders, residents and vendors within Atlanta, DeKalb County, Fulton County and other areas to design and implement public safety projects and programs.
